Step by Step
Installation Instructions
Clarity Backed by Expertise
-
The single most important factor in installation quality is controlling contamination. Any dust, debris, or airborne particles trapped between the film and the windshield will remain visible after installation and may impact optical clarity.
Recommended Conditions
● Install indoors whenever possible in a clean, controlled environment
● Avoid airflow from fans, open doors, or HVAC vents
● Minimize foot traffic and nearby activity that may generate dust
● If installing outdoors, use a temporary tent or enclosure around the front of the vehicle
● Ensure adequate lighting so the installer can see moisture and air pockets clearly
● The vehicle should be cool to the touch; avoid installing on hot glass in direct sunlight
-
Using the proper tools ensures even pressure, prevents scratching, and improves adhesion.
Installation Tools
● Soft-blade installation squeegee (5" recommended for curvature conformity)
● Cleaning squeegee (6" recommended for fast glass prep)
● Two white non-abrasive scrub pads (one for alcohol, one for cleaning solution)
● Stainless steel 1" scraper (for stubborn debris only)
● 2–3 spray bottles
● Lint-free microfiber towels
● Hard card wrapped in microfiber (for edge sealing)
● Heat gun (for controlled edge sealing)
● Slip/Cleaning Solution:
○ 8–10 drops baby shampoo in 32 oz filtered water
○ The solution should form a continuous soapy sheet on glass
○ If solution separates quickly, add more soap
○ Use slightly more soap in hot conditions and less in cold conditions
● 91% Isopropyl Alcohol (for removing coatings)
● Optional: 70% Alcohol/Water mix for edge sealing in cold or humid climates
-
Objective: Remove surface dirt and prevent contamination during install.
● Spray the windshield generously with slip solution
● Scrub entire windshield using white scrub pad
● Clean surrounding areas including A-pillars and roof edge above windshield
● Dirt from these areas can fall onto glass during installation
● Lift and secure windshield wipers away from glass
Take extra care on lower windshield where road grime accumulates. This step may take longer depending on vehicle condition.
-
Objective: Eliminate any hydrophobic coatings or residues that may prevent adhesion.
● Apply 91% isopropyl alcohol
● Scrub entire windshield thoroughly using dedicated scrub pad
● Focus especially on areas where water beads
● This step requires firm pressure and consistent coverage
● Spend at least 5 minutes ensuring full removal
Failure to fully remove coatings may result in poor adhesion or lifting.
-
Objective: Remove all alcohol residue and loosened contaminants.
● Spray slip solution again
● Lightly scrub entire surface
● Squeegee clean
● Ensure glass is completely residue-free
This step prepares the surface for final contamination check.
-
Objective: Confirm proper fit before exposing adhesive.
● Wet the windshield lightly
● Place film on glass with liner still attached
● Check alignment across top edge and sides
● Confirm coverage of driver viewing area
● Remove film and place in clean, protected area
This step helps avoid repositioning after adhesive is exposed.
-
Objective: Ensure a perfectly clean installation surface.
● Re-clean windshield using slip solution
● Inspect visually for debris or streaks
● Keep surface fully wet
● Ensure tools and spray bottles are within reach
At this stage, installation should proceed without delay to prevent contamination.
-
(Two-Person Recommended)
Objective: Expose adhesive while preventing contamination.
● Spray windshield generously with slip solution
● Spray installer and assistant fingers to remove oils
● Assistant holds two corners of film
● Installer begins peeling liner from one corner
● Spray adhesive side heavily during removal
● Remove liner quickly but carefully
● Avoid creasing film
● Ensure adhesive does not contact itself or dry areas
-
Objective: Place film accurately before anchoring.
● Spray windshield again
● Lift film carefully over wipers
● Place adhesive side down onto wet glass
● Align film with windshield edges
● Make minor adjustments while surface is still wet Proper alignment at this stage prevents edge trimming.
-
Objective: Lock film in place before full squeegee.
● Mist outside of film with slip solution
● Use hands to remove large air pockets
● Using squeegee, anchor center of film
● Apply 2–3 overlapping vertical strokes
● Confirm film has not shifted
Anchoring stabilizes the film for final squeegee process.
-
Objective: Remove all water and air between film and glass.
● Start from center and work outward
● Mist film lightly before each pass
● Use overlapping strokes
● Apply medium pressure first pass
● Repeat 2–3 additional passes with increased pressure
● Pay attention to edges and corners
● Check for trapped pockets
Overlapping strokes are critical to avoid moisture channels.
-
Objective: Ensure long-term adhesion at film edges.
● Use heat gun to gently warm edges (if needed)
● Keep heat gun moving to avoid overheating
● Use microfiber-wrapped hard card
● Apply firm pressure pushing moisture outward
● Repeat process around entire perimeter
● Perform sealing pass twice
Proper edge sealing prevents lifting during curing.
-
● Lightly mist film with glass cleaner
● Wipe using clean microfiber towel
● Inspect edges carefully
● Reheat and reseal any lifting areas
● Clean surrounding glass and body panels
-
Provide the following guidance to vehicle operators:
● Allow 24–48 hours for full cure
● Avoid rain exposure for first 24 hours
● Do not wash vehicle for 48 hours
● Avoid high-speed driving in dusty environments during cure
● Minor haze or moisture may dissipate during curing
-
● Keep glass and film wet at all times
● Use overlapping squeegee strokes
● Work from center outward
● Maintain clean environment
● Avoid excessive heat
● Use two installers for large windshields
● Inspect edges carefully before completion
